New Zealand artist Sue Syme graduated with a Diploma of Fine Arts in 1981.
Sue has been a practicing artist since leaving Art School working in a variety of mediums. Previously Sue did a lot of work in water colour, pen and ink depicting busy social scenes, cafes, parties, street scenes etc. During this time she won the Telecom Art award for a West Coast Pub Scene.
After completing a Diploma of Teaching Sue did a few years part-time at the Te Tai Poutini Polytech in Greymouth, teaching Printmaking. Whilst there Sue produced quite a body of work in Wood cuts and Etchings. Around this time Sue was asked to participate in the Muka Youth Print Workshop in Auckland and produced a series of Lithographs which tour New Zealand periodically.
The last five years has seen Sue painting predominantly in oils on canvas. This has been a liberating experience for Sue and she now finds herself doing works of a much larger scale. Sue has spent most of her life living and painting on the West Coast of the South Island but has lived in Picton, Marlborough for the last 10 years. Sue exhibits regularly throughout New Zealand.
